Our Story

Our journey to bringing Authentic Indian Cuisine to Perth and the UK started when Praveen and Swarna opened Tabla Restaurant in Perth, Scotland, in 2009. It was an immediate success, with awards and loyal customers flocking in, including being the first Indian restaurant in Scotland to be awarded 1 Rosette by the AA.

 

In 2019, Praveen and Swarna launched Praveen Kumar – Authentic Indian Cuisine, bringing the same delicious dishes they had perfected at Tabla to the whole of the UK, by offering delivery of frozen dishes.

In 2019, Praveen and Swarna launched Praveen Kumar – Authentic Indian Cuisine, bringing the same delicious dishes they had perfected at Tabla, to the whole of the UK by offering frozen meal delivery. Our Mission

We want to ensure that Praveen Kumar – Authentic Indian Cuisine can deliver the tastiest curries to fans all over the UK, so that they don’t have to make do with dodgy takeaways that don’t show what Indian Cuisine really can be!

 

We want to work with the local community of craft farmers and producers to provide a premium authentic Indian food experience. All meals are produced using local British produce and authentic spices provided by our own Indian family.

 

Our people are our business. We invest in our people and their personal development and support them to be creative, innovative and progressive. With our customer satisfaction guarantee, we will ensure that all our customers are happy with our service and products. We aim to provide sustainable employment in the local Perth area with a five-year target for 100 employees.

Praveen Kumar & Team

Praveen & Swarna Kumar, Founders

 

Praveen and Swarna were born and brought up in rural villages in Southern India where meals are cooked daily, using fresh ingredients grown in local fields. They married and moved to Scotland where combining their passion for good and simple food, they founded the bustling TABLA Indian restaurant in Perth in 2009.

 

Praveen setup PraveenKumar.com in 2018 to provide the same high-quality meals that are so popular at TABLA restaurant, delivered straight to your door. He’s proud to be changing the landscape of Indian cuisine in the UK – as he says – there’s no reason to settle for a bad curry!

Praveen heads up PraveenKumar.com, and is always busy planning new ways to expand. Swarna overseas all our operations, including our wholesale business.

Recycling & Food Waste

At PraveenKumar.com, we are fully committed to achieving 100% sustainable and recyclable packaging (including delivery packaging), whilst minimising food wastage.

 

All our dishes are packed in a 100%-recyclable recycled cardboard tray, coated in an innovative waterproof layer. Simply wash the trays in your dishwasher, and then they can go in your blue bin as mixed recycling!

 

Our innovative delivery system uses a combination of recyclable cardboard insulation, filler and outer box, with Dry Ice that naturally evaporates over time – no nasty polystyrene here!

 

You can fully recycle the cardboard box, insulating liner and any filler paper. Alternatively, the insulating liner is great for keep plants warm in your greenhouse, or for your own picnics and more! 

 

As our dishes are frozen, we don’t have nearly as much food wastage due to expiring best before dates. We cook small batches of our dishes as we need them, and work with local producers to minimise food miles.

Our Partnerships

Praveen Kumar is honoured to support The Akshaya Patra Foundation with our Meal-for-a-Meal scheme, that we launched in June 2020. For every meal sold on our website, we will donate a meal to feed a schoolchild in India.

 

Akshaya Patra is an international charity that does amazing work across India and the UK, providing meals for schoolchildren to ensure that they have enough energy to learn, and can attend school without worrying about being hungry. To date, they have provided over 3 billion meals across the world – and we’re glad to help support them in whatever way we can.

 

Throughout 2020, we have supplied local frontline services – hospitals, police, prisons and care homes – to ensure that staff can have a delicious curry free of charge, to help them through their shift.
