Kumar's Curry Club is honoured to support The Akshaya Patra Foundation with our Meal-for-a-Meal scheme that we launched in June 2020. For every meal sold on our website, we will donate a meal to feed a school child in India.

Around the world, millions of children go hungry, with 25% of malnourished children living in India. A lack of food forces 8 million children in India to work for their meals, rather than go to school. Without education, these children can never escape a vicious cycle of malnutrition, poverty and despair.

 Akshaya Patra feeds 1.8 MILLION schoolchildren every day, across over 18,000 schools in India.

The Akshaya Patra Foundation works hand in hand with the Indian Government to break this cycle, by providing a nutritious mid-day meal at school, for free. From their specialised production kitchens that can each make 20,000 meals an hour, they have served over 3.4 BILLION meals .

The evidence is clear – feeding children at school improves their attendance, performance and life prospects. The meals are healthy, nutritious and tasty, cooked using local recipes and with local produce – just like we do here at Kumar's Curry Club. They ensure that no child leaves school hungry, and increase the number of children who attend school, as well as giving them all the energy they need to learn. The evidence is clear – feeding children at school improves their attendance, performance and life prospects.

At Kumar's Curry Club, the opportunity to support The Akshaya Patra Foundation is a cause very close to our Praveen’s heart. He grew up in a rural village in South India and knows how important a good meal is to keep children well-fed and educated.

“I know of schools and school children close to my home in India that will directly benefit from this and what more can I wish for than to help them myself?”

Praveen says: “When I grew up, I was lucky that my family had food on the table every day, as I knew then that, same as now, many families across India do not have the same resources. I am proud to support Akshaya Patra in their most noble goal of ending child food poverty in India, and across the world, through our Meal-for-a-Meal partnership.

Our Meal-for-a-Meal scheme is simple – for every meal purchased on our website, we will serve a meal to schoolchildren in India, through Akshaya Patra, by donating 7p from our profits.

7p may sound like pocket change, but once it is matched by the Indian Government and other charitable bodies, it turns in to 25p, which is the cost to feed one child.
